His Majesty
congratulates Norway on Kingdom’s Constitution Day |

His Majesty Sultan
Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan
of Brunei Darussalam, expresses his satisfaction of the alliance between
Brunei Darussalam and the Kingdom of Norway and believes that the
relationships between the two countries will be further strengthened in many
years to come at the bilateral and multilateral levels. His Majesty conveys
his wishes in his congratulatory messages to His Majesty King Harald the
Fifth, the King of the Kingdom of Norway on the occasion of the country’s
Constitution Day that falls today.
In his message, the
Brunei’s Monarch also wishes the King of Norway good health and happiness
and for the people of the kingdom to always enjoy continued progress and
prosperity. His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam
also sent a similar message to His Excellency Jens Stoltenberg, the Prime
Minister of Norway.
Meanwhile, His Royal
Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade
also sent a congratulatory message to His Excellency Jonas Gahr Store, the
Minister of Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Norway on the occasion of the
country’s Constitution Day.
In his message, His
Royal Highness expressed appreciation on the friendly relations between the
two countries and look forward to continuing work together in enhancing them
as bilateral and regional partners. |

His Majesty makes
working visit to Training Institute of RBAF at Penanjong Garrison |

His Majesty
Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang
Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam has consented to make a working visit to
the Training Institute of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces at the Penanjong
Garrison. His Majesty was greeted on arrival at the Headquarters of the
Institute by the Deputy Minister of Defence, Retired Colonel Pehin Dato
Paduka Haji Mohd. Yasmin and the Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed
Forces, Major General Pehin Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi.
Soon after his
arrival, His Majesty received and inspected a guard of honour mounted by
110 personnel of the Third Battalion. His Majesty later heard a
briefing on the structure and organisation of the institute. The close
door session was presented by Commandant of the institute, Lieutenant
Colonel Haji Said bin Haji Putih. His Majesty’s tour of the Army
Training Institute included the Learning Institute, the Recruit Company,
the Training Company and the 30 meter long shooting range.
At the end of
the visit, the Monarch consented to attend a luncheon with the high
ranking officers of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces at the Officer’s Mess
of the Penanjong Garrison. The visit by His Majesty is yet another
motivation for the armed forces personnel to be continuously committed
in upholding the roles and responsibility of the Royal Brunei Armed
Forces. |

Crown Prince
grants audience to newly appointed Ambassador to Indonesia |

His Royal
Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee, the Crown Prince; and Senior Minister
at the Prime Minister’s Office, has had an audience with Brunei
Darussalam’s newly appointed Ambassador to the Republic of Indonesia.
His Royal Highness the Crown Prince received His Excellency Pehin Datu
Harimau Padang Retired Major General Dato Paduka Seri Haji Hussin bin
Ahmad. His Excellency received his credentials from His Majesty Sultan
and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam on the 12th of April last
month. His Excellency was the former Ambassador to the Hashemite
Kingdom of Jordan.
Also present at
the audience ceremony was the Permanent Secretary at the Prime
Minister’s Office, Pengiran Dato Paduka Haji Abu Bakar. |

Amendment of
Regulations of Board of Organisers and Mukim and Kampung Consultative
Council |

His Majesty the
Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam has consented for the
amendment of Regulations of Board of Organisers, and the Mukim and
Kampung Consultative Council which were enforced since 1996. The
amended regulations took effect from the 1st of May 2006. The
Government of His Majesty has also allocated one hundred thousand
dollars to activate the function and role of the Consultative Council.
The matter was highlighted by the Minister of Home Affairs while
chairing a Meeting of Members of the Board of Organisers of the
Consultative Council with penghulus, ketua kampung and longhouses’ head,
Tuesday. Pehin Dato Paduka Haji Adanan said the main purpose for the
change and amendment was to strengthen and actively implement the cause
of the establishment of the Mukim and Kampung Consultative Council, to
make it more effective in line with the requirement, development and
current and future challenges.
At the
gathering, the Minister also disclosed that His Majesty also consented
to consider giving Permanent Resident status based of certain categories
with effect from Tuesday, May 16th 2006. At the meeting, a
briefing on the regulations of the board of organisers and the Mukim and
Kampung Consultative Council for 2006 was delivered by the Deputy
Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Home Affairs, Dato Paduka Haji
Adnan bin Haji Hanafiah.
Among those
present were the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Pehin Dato Paduka Haji
Dani and Permanent Secretaries at the Ministry of Home Affairs and other
ministries, as well as members of the board of organisers of the Mukim
and Kampung Consultative Council 2006. The meeting took place at the
Fire and Rescue Department in Berakas. |

Kedah Youth and
Sports Committee Chairman pays courtesy call on Minister of CYS |

The Minister of
Culture, Youth and Sport has received a courtesy call from the Youth and
Sports Committee Chairman of the Malaysian State of Kedah, Encik Othman
bin Haji Aziz. Retired Major General Pehin Dato Pahlawan Haji Mohammad
received Encik Othman at the Minister’s office in Jalan Kebangsaan.
Also present at
the call was the Permanent Secretary, Awang Haji Jemat bin Haji Ampal.
The delegation is in the country to invite the Minister to attend the
opening and closing ceremony of the 11th SUKMA which will be held on
27th of this month until 4th of June 2006. |

SOAS College wins
34th Final Malay Debate Competition for Secondary and Colleges |

The Deputy
Permanent Secretary at the Ministry of Education said the talent in
debating is an important skill especially in today’s global world. The
charisma can be used in highlighting important issues, defending the
country’s and people’s right. Awang Haji Mohd. Daud bin Haji Mahmud was
speaking at the 34th Final Malay Debate Competition for Secondary and
Colleges, Tuesday. He said the debate competition is one of the
school’s activities that can upgrade certain skill and knowledge.
The Sultan Omar
Ali Saifuddien College emerged as the champion after defeating the Duli
Pengiran Muda Al-Muhtadee Billah College. Awang Mohd. Fahmi bin Lasa
from the Sultan Omar Ali Saifuddien College was chosen as the best
speaker. The competition took place at Dewan Raya of Radio Television
Brunei in Bandar Seri Begawan. |

Copyright Committee Meeting and Seminar in BSB continues |

The Legal
Counsel at the Attorney General’s Chambers said under Brunei
Darussalam’s Copyrights Law, the penalty under the Copyright Order is
six months imprisonment or a fine of five thousand dollars. There are
two legislations under the country’s Copyrights Law that affects
broadcasting. The legislations are Copyright Order 1999 and
Broadcasting Act Chapter 180. The Copyright Order is basically the
copyright protection of broadcasting where as the Broadcasting Act is on
service provider.
Dayang Nurul Al
Ain binti Haji Abdullah highlighted this at a Seminar of the 12th
Asia-Pacific Broadcasting Union or ABU Copyright Committee Meeting and
Seminar held Tuesday. She presented a paper entitled Copyright
Challenges in Brunei Darussalam which according to her, among the issues
of concerns in Brunei Darussalam includes copyright issues, ownership
problem and counterfeit challenge. |
