His Majesty sends condolences to Pakistan on death of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto

 
 

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu’izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di- Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam has sent his condolences to President of the Islamic Republic of Pakistan, His Excellency President Pervez Musharraf, following the death of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto on Thursday, the 27th of December 2007.  

In the message, His Majesty expressed his shock by the report on the dreadful act of terrorism in Rawalpindi, which resulted in the death of former Prime Minister Benazir Bhutto.  His Majesty also stated that at this time of National Mourning in Pakistan, His Majesty as well as the Government and People of Brunei Darussalam expressed condemnation of the act.  His Majesty also sent his deepest condolences and profound respects to the people of Pakistan, and to the family and friends of the late Benazir Bhutto.

 

Third group of Brunei pilgrims return home

 
 

The third group of Brunei pilgrims returned home from the Haj Friday afternoon.  Among the haj was the Minister of Education, Pehin Dato Seri Setia Haji Abdul Rahman. They are from the Syarikat Darussalam Holdings Sendirian Berhad.  The fourth group of the Brunei pilgrims of the Darussalam Holdings Sendirian Berhad is expected to arrive today at about 12 in the afternoon.

 
 

Sultan Foundation gives coupons to less fortune students to purchase books and stationary

 
 

The Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Foundation has given coupons to less fortune students to purchase books and stationary.  363 students received coupons worth 30 dollars each while another 391 students received coupons worth 60 dollars each.  

The coupons were presented by the Board of Director of the Foundation, Awang Haji Mohamad Roselan bin Haji Mohamad Daud.  The coupons are valid in various bookstores at the Foundation’s Complex in the capital.

 
 

Two Filipinos and an Indonesian embrace Islam

 

Two women of different races pledged their oath, choosing Islam as their new religion, Friday.  Rebecca Pereyra Capistrano, aged 43 years old Filipino, chose her Muslim name as Dayang Amerah Azeyah binti Abdul Rahman. 

Meanwhile, her 13 year-old niece, Camille Pereyra Sabularse also embraced Islam by syarak because she is under 14 years and 7 months.  She is now known as Dayang Nur Syafiqah binti Abdul Rahman.  The conversion ceremony took place in Kampung Rimba.  

 
 

Meanwhile, 25 year-old Melly from Indonesia also embraced Islam.  She is now known as Siti Khadizah binti Abdullah. The ceremony took place in Kampung Lambak Kanan.

 

Sale Carnival 2007 currently on at Indoor Stadium

 
 

Parents and guardians who want  to buy school books, stationeries and school uniforms can obtain them at the Indoor Stadium of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Sports Complex.  More than 55 booths are provided which offer all kinds of products.  

About 59 local companies and Small and Medium Enterprises are taking part in the Sale Carnival 2007 which is open to the public until Tuesday.

 
 

Over 460 government officers in B2 EB 3 group scale sit for General Order Exam

 
 

More than 460 government officers in the B2 EB 3 group scale sat for the General Order Examination, Friday.  It took place at the Universiti Brunei Darussalam.  A pass in the bi-annual General Orders Examination, held in June and December, is a condition for promotions and confirmation of posts in the B3 groups 3 and 2 salary scale or its equivalent.  In the past year, the percentage of candidates who passed the exam increased from 41 percent in December 2006 to 67 percent in June 2007.  This obvious increase owes to the initiative of the Civil Service Department for holding briefings on the aspects of the General Order, in preparation for the exam.

Among the contents of the General Order are aspects of appointments, promotions, conduct and behaviour as well as actions that can be taken towards government officers for misconduct in civil service.

 
 

1st Brunei Four Wheel Drive Expedition covering Europe, Middle East and Asia begins

 
 

The first Brunei Four Wheel Drive Expedition covering Europe, Middle East and Asia began Friday.  The second and final stage of this record-breaking 14 month expedition which is  scheduled for completion on 11th May 2008, aims to disseminate an enhance awareness and knowledge about the small south-east nation of Brunei Darussalam in each of 25 countries throughout Europe and Asia. 

The expedition team comprises the couple, Dayang Norhayati binti Abu Bakar and her husband, Harun Kurt Eichbauer.  They left the country Friday afternoon for Austria to rejoin the vehicle which has been garaged there.  During the expedition, the team will fly the national flag along the route as to promote Brunei Darussalam as an eco-tourism destination for tourists from Europe, Middle East and ASEAN countries.
