Brunei Darussalam congratulate Canada on
its anniversary

His Majesty Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Muizaddien Waddaullah the Sultan and Yang DiPertuan of Brunei Darussalam expresses his satisfaction with the warm relations and close cooperation between Brunei Darussalam and Canada.  His Majesty is confident that this would be maintained and enhanced both bilaterally and multilaterally for the mutual benefit of the two countries and peoples.   His Majesty conveys these in messages of congratulations to Her Excellency, The Right Honourable  Michaelle Jean, Governor-General of Canada and His Excellency, the Right Honourable Stephen Joseph Harper, Prime Minister on the occasion of Canada Day.  His Majesty also hopes Her Excellency, The Right Honourable Michaelle Jean would always remain in good health and happiness as well as for the continued progress and prosperity of the people of Canada.  
 

In a similar congratulatory message to His Excellency, the Right Honourable  Stephen Joseph Harper, His Majesty the Sultan and Yang DiPertuan of Brunei Darussalam also wished His Excellency, his continued good health and happiness.  Meanwhile, His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, the Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade also sent a message of congratulation to the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Canada, His Excellency, David Emerson  In his message, His Royal Highness expresses his warmest congratulations to His Excellency and the government and people of Canada on Canada Day. His Royal Highness also appreciates the long-standing friendship between Brunei Darussalam and Canada.

Official hoisting of National flag marks
the start of celebration

The hoisting of the large sized National flag took place at the open area of the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Foundation Complex in the heart of the capital.  The ceremony marks the official flag-flying period throughout the country inconjunction with His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam's 62nd birthday anniversary.   62 personnel of the Fire and Rescue as well Prisons Departments bearing the large size national flag entered compound where the flag raising ceremony was held.  The Minister of Home Affairs, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Johan Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Adanan, in his capacity as Chairman of the National Committee for His Majesty's 62 birthday anniversary celebration, handed over the giant flag to personnel of the Royal Brunei Navy to be hoisted. The flag, measures about 3.7 metres wide and 7.3 metre long.  Subsequently, National flags were presented to District Officers of the Brunei Muara, Belait, Tutong and the Acting Temburong District Officer. Starting July first until the 31st, Pengiran-Pengiran and those bestowed with titles are to fly their personal flags while citizens and residents of the country are asked to fly the national flags. This is to glorify His Majesty's upcoming birthday celebration. 

The National-level hoisting was later followed by the district-level hoisting that took place in all the four districts .  In the Brunei Muara District, the flag raising ceremony was held at the Civic Centre of the Mentiri's National Housing Scheme.  In the Belait District, the flag hoisting ceremony took place at the Menara Cendera Kenangan. In the Tutong District at the Canopy Serambangun while in the Temburong District, a similar function was held at the Taman Perayaan Pekan Bangar.
