Prime Minister currently in sultanate for two-day official visit |
Thailand’s Prime Minister, His Excellency Samak
Sundaravej is now in the country on a two-day official
visit. On hand to welcome His Excellency at the Brunei
International Airport Thursday afternoon was His Royal
Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, Minister of Foreign
Affairs and Trade. His Excellency and His Royal
Highness went to the special dais to receive a special
lineup and guard of honour by Royal Brunei Armed Forces
personnel. The national anthems of both countries were
played. His Excellency Samak Sundaravej was then
introduced to Cabinet Ministers and Deputy Ministers,
the Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces,
Commissioner of Police, Heads of Missions of friendly
nations to the country, Permanent Secretaries at the
Prime Minister’s Office and Ministry of Foreign Affairs
and Trade.
His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah was also introduced to
the Thai Prime Minister’s delegation which consists of the Secretary-General
to the Prime Minister’s Office, Mr. Tirapol Noparumpa and Permanent
Secretary at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs, Mr. Virasakdi Futrakul.
Brunei Darussalam and Thailand established diplomatic relations on
January 1st 1984. The close relationship covers a wide range of cooperation
including areas of trade and investment, human resource development,
education, technical training and air services. Imports from Thailand are
mostly food products. Exports to Thailand are mostly crude materials,
manufactured goods, mineral fuels, machinery and transport equipment. In
2007, Brunei imported $156 million worth of goods from Thailand and exported
$160 million to Thailand.
While in the country, Thailand’s Prime Minister, His Excellency
Samak Sundaravej held a meeting with Thai diplomats to the country. The
meeting took place at the Empire Hotel and Country Club. The meeting aimed
