 Thai Premier concludes two-day official visit to sultanate

The Prime Minister of Thailand, His Excellency Mr. Samak Sundaravej, left the country Friday afternoon, after a two-day official visit to the sultanate.  At the Brunei International Airport to bid farewell was the Minister of Communications, Pehin Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abu Bakar, as the Minister-in-Attendance.

Thailand established its Consulate General in Bandar Seri Begawan in 1983 and in the same year, Brunei opened its government representative’s office in Bangkok which was upgraded to embassy status in 1984.  Over the last two decades, Brunei and Thailand have enjoyed close bilateral relations at all levels of the government and people.  The bilateral ties between both countries encompass trade and investment, services, education, defence and agriculture.

Visiting Thai Prime Minister officially opens Thai Fair 2008

In the morning, the visiting Thai Prime Minister, His Excellency Mr. Samak Sundaravej officially opened the Thai Fair 2008 at the Royal Thai Embassy in Kampung Bunut.  The Thai Ambassador to Brunei, His Excellency Mr. Phithak Phrombubpha welcomed the Thai Prime Minister upon his arrival.  The opening of Thai Trade Fair was to mark the Thai Prime Minister’s two-day official visit here.  Present at the Thai Trade Fair were foreign diplomats and senior government officials. During his tour of the stalls at the Thai Trade Fair, His Excellency Mr. Samak Sundaravej tasted the durian, along with other foreign diplomats.

 

Earlier, His Excellency urged Thai business traders in the country to make sure products marketed were always of the best quality.  Various Thai products ranging from fruits and food to home decorations, clothing and women’s accessories as well as Thai massage were showcased.  The Thai Fair opened to the public and runs until July 18th from ten in the morning till nine in the evening.  

After the fair’s launch, His Excellency Mr. Samak Sundaravej visited the Official Residence of Thailand’s Ambassador to Brunei, His Excellency Phithak Phrombubpha in Kampung Mata-Mata.  During the visit, His Excellency Mr. Samak Sundaravej planted a ‘Ma-Prang/Plum Mango’ tree in front of the Ambassador’s residence.  His Excellency also tried his hand at preparing a Thai traditional dish.  According to statistics given by a Thai Embassy’s official, there are 6,000 Thai nationals working in Brunei..........[More News]
