Men Win $100,000.00 from BIBD Wish Campaign
The BIBD, Wish Campaign aspires to cultivate a culture
of saving among Bruneians in a sustainable manner by
encouraging account holders to increase savings every
month and help people confront the challenges they face.
In this regards, Awang Haji Ismadey bin Haji Hussin now
can fulfill his wish after received the Bank Islam
Brunei Darussalam, BIBD, Wish Campaign’s first Quarterly
Award of $100,000.00. The presentation was held Friday
Night at The Mall in Gadong. Present to handover the
awards was Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Anak Khairul Khalil
bin Pengiran Syed Haji Jaafari.
Awang Haji Ismadey wish to buy a new house for his
family. He leave his study when he was still young and
find a job to support his family who need protection and
self-sufficient. Besides him, ten other wish awardees
also received their prizes and also can fulfill
their wishes. This is the third batch of wishers.
Also present, Minister of Development, Yang Berhormat
Pehin Orang Kaya Hamzah Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang
Haji Abdullah who is also Chairman of BIBD. The
Quarterly Awards has only crystallised the broader
aim of the campaign, symbolising a turning point
in Bruneian savings culture. BIBD will continue to grant
Wishes with a total value of around 80 thousand Brunei
dollars every month and the grand Wish Awards ceremony
will be held in January 2010, where one worthy BIBD
customer will see his or her million dollar Wish come
true.
Brunei Youth Celebrates Youth Day every 1st
August
Youth Day is celebrated on every 1st of August aims to
gather youths in this country. His Majesty the Sultan
and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam has declared
that, 1st August is as a recognization and appreciation
towards Youths in the country. In conjunction to it, The
Ministry of Culture, Youth and Sports Friday Afternoon
held a Kesyukuran Ceremony to mark Youth Day 2009.
The ceremony began with a mass Fardhu Maghrib and Isyak
Prayers, Sunnat Hajat Prayer, Reading of Surah Yassin,
Tahlil and Doa Kesyukuran, followed with Doa Tolak Bala.
Present was, the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports,
Pehin Orang Kaya Setia Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Dr.
Awang Haji Ahmad. The function was held at the Kampong
Salambigar Mosque, in Jalan Muara.
Lowering of our Giant National Flag
The lowering of large size National Flag in conjunction
with His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of
Brunei Darussalam's 63rd birthday anniversary took place
at the open area of the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah
Foundation complex in the capital. Present was the
Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Yang Dimuliakan Pehin
Orang Kaya Dewa Pahlawan Dato Paduka Haji Awang Dani, as
the deputy chairman of the executive committee of His
Majesty's 63rd birthday celebrations. The 3 point 7
metre long and 7 point point 3 metre wide giant flag was
lowered by 25 personnel of the Royal Brunei Navy. The
flag was then handed over to the Deputy Minister of Home
Affairs. The lowering of the flag marks the end of the
flag-hoisting period throughout the country in
conjunction with His Majesty's birthday celebration. The
giant sized national flag was hoisted on the 1st of this
month.
25 New Police Recruits
The new police recruits are urged to be constantly on
guard and remain cautious while on duty. The director of
Crime Investigation Department in making the call also
reminded them not to be complacent with the current
situation in Brunei which he said is stable. The acting
Assistant Commissioner of Police, Metamit bin Hj Kanak
was speaking at the passing out parade for 25 new
recruits of the Royal Brunei Police. In his address, he
also urged the new recruits to strive towards upgrading
the image and performance of the Royal Brunei Police
Force as a whole.
He further expressed the hope that all the trainings and
knowledge they learned will help in turning them to
become high discipline and honourable police personnel.
3 best recruits received the award at the ceremony.
Muhammad Safwat bin Hj Mazlan was the best in all
fields, Mohammad Sallehin bin Awang Masri the best in
law and Police duty and Muhammad Hassannuddin bin Abd
Wahid the best in parade and field trainings.
Dusun family of six has embraced Islam
A Dusun family of six has embraced Islam. Dayang Norati
binti Luwis, aged 36, took her Islamic oath in the
presence of officers from the Islamic Dakwah Centre at
the Kampong Bebuloh's Religious House. She is now known
as Dayang Nurhanisah binti Abdullah Luwis. Her five
children had also had their Islamic names. Present was
the Director of Information, Dr. Haji Muhammad Hadi. To
bless the ceremony, a Dikir presentation was held at the
function.
Meanwhile in the Belait District, a conversion ceremony
was also held for a Dusun family of five. Awang Jasni
bin Biju, aged 43, chose his islamic name as Muhammad
Jasni bin Muhammad Isa, while, his wife is now known as
Nur Sadiah binti Abdullah. Their three children also
chose their own islamic names. Their conversion ceremony
was conducted by officers from the Islamic Dakwah
Centre. The ceremony took place at their residence at
Kampung Pandan 8, in Kuala Belait.
New House for 67 year old senior citizen
The life of a 67 year old senior citizen has changed for
the better and with more comfort following the
construction of a new home after living for so long in a
house that was dilapidated and unsafe. Asmah Binti
Abdullah's new house was constructed under the
Indigenous Land Scheme and was fitted with basic
facilities. The construction cost 35 thousand dollars
and with the new house, Dayang Asmah moved from the
house that she had been living in for 34 years. The
construction project was organised by the Belait
District Office with the cooperation of a number of
government departments, private companies and
individuals. The ceremony to present Dayang Asmah with
the keys to the new house was officiated by the Belait
District Officer, Haji Jamain Bin Momin.
Temburong holds 'One Village One Product' expo and
bazaar
The public and community of Brunei Darussalam needs to
grab opportunities provided by being involved in
activities directed towards the economy through product
promotion. Mukim and kampong consultative councils as
well as village residents are encouraged to be more
active in the fields of economy and entrepreneurship as
part of the efforts towards establishing and realising
the 'One Village One Product' concept. One of the
efforts by the Temburong District Office in heeding the
government's call in realising the project is by
launching an expo and bazaar.
The launching ceremony for the Mukim and Kampong
Consultative Council's weekend expo and bazaar was
officiated by the Temburong District Officer, Awang
Matusin bin Orang Kaya Sura Haji Tuba. The expo and
bazaar was organised by the Temburong District Office
through the Mukim and Kampong Institution Section and is
held at two areas, the Bumiputera Main Complex and the
Bangar Town Customs Wharf. The three day expo and bazaar
ends Sunday from half past eight in the morning until 10
at night. According to the Special Duties Officer at the
Temburong District Office, Ampuan Noorirawaty bte Ampuan
Haji Razid, the aim of this expo and bazaar is to
highlight the celebration of His Majesty's birthday
anniversary and is also as a way to promote the One
village one product concept in Temburong.
Marine Police detained Filipino male on Brunei waters
It is an offence to fish without a license that is
legitimate and to be on Brunei waters illegally. Friday
a foreigner was arrested for fishing at the Pulau Pilong
Rock area. The arrest was made following information
from the public. In the Operasi Persisiran Pantai or
Coastal Operation using PDB18, Marine Police personnel
successfully detained a 31 year old Filipino male while
on Brunei waters. During the arrest, the man was fishing
in the area using an 18 foot long wooden boat, with a 10
horsepower engine.
Following investigations, the man was found to have
violated the Fisheries Act, section 61 under Chapter 2
(b) - Fishing without a legitimate license. If found
guilty, he will be fined 2 thousand 500 dollars or 1
year imprisonment in default. He was also found to be in
violation of the Bruneian Fishing Border Regulation
Section 130, under Chapter 4(2)(b) - Fishing on Brunei
Darussalam waters and if found guilty will be fined one
thousand dollars. For violating the Immigration Act
under Chapter 6(1)(c) - Illegal immigrant, he may be
sentenced to three months imprisonment and 3 strokes of
the cane.
