Laila
Padi will be on sale at local market
The first production of Laila rice will soon be
available at the local market after all harvesting and
milling process are completed. The Minister of Industry
and Primary Resources said Laila rice will be sold at
$1.20 per kilogram. According to Pehin Dato Seri Setia
Haji Awang Yahya, his ministry will continue to allocate
new areas for cultivating Laila Paddy in the four
districts. He said, two new areas have been allocated in
the Brunei Muara district, one in Kampong Batong and
another in Pengkalan Batu.
The two locations he added will have a total area of
around two to three hundred hectares. He said the next
rice cultivating season begins early October. He added
cultivation will also be held during rainy seasons,
taking advantage from the rain waters to irrigate the
paddy fields. He went on to disclose that around
4-hundred hectares of paddy will be harvested in this
first cultivating season. An average of 3 metric tonne
of paddy are produced for every hectares, thus bringing
the total production to around 1,200 metric tonnes of
rice. The minister stated this in an interview during
Laila Paddy harvesting activity in conjunction with the
ministry's Family Day Sunday. It was held at the Wasan
Paddy Cultivation Project in Brunei Muara district.
Students of the Wasan Vocational School and the Seri
Begawan Religious Teachers University College also took
part in the paddy harvesting activity.
Car Accident killed Malaysian and another accident
injured two
A Malaysian man died in a freak accident in Seri Belait
bypass highway Sunday. The accident occurred at around 6
o'clock in the morning. According to witnesses, the
victim's car which was heading to Seria rammed the rear
end of a pickup before flipping over. The victim in his
twenties managed to exit his car after the impact but
was hit by another car which was also heading to Seria.
The victim was rushed to the Suri Seri Begawan Hospital
in Kuala Belait and was pronounced dead on arrival.
Meanwhile, the two drivers and the victim's passengers
were injured and are treated at the same hospital. The
police is now seeking cooperation from the public in
their investigation into the cause of the accident.
Those who witnessed the accident are advised to call the
Investigating Officer at the Seria Police Station at
3222612.
Meanwhile, two drivers escaped with only minor injuries
after their cars collided at the traffic light junction
in Kampong Sengkarai, Tutong. The accident happened
after one of the vehicles beat the red light. Both
vehicles and one of the traffic lights were badly
damage. Both drivers were rushed to the Raja Isteri
Pengiran Anak Saleha Hospital in the capital for
treatment. The cause of the accidents is under
investigation.
Charity bazaar at Pusat Ehsan
The Pusat Ehsan Al-Ameerah Al-Hajjah Maryam Sunday held
a day-long Charity Bazaar to boost its financial
resource to finance the cost of services and caring for
people with special needs at the centre. The bazaar was
declared open by the Trustee of Pusat Ehsan, Haji Ahmad
bin Haji Abdul Rahman and involved the children with
special needs and members of the Charity Bazaar Working
Committee. 120 booths were provided for private
companies, associations, welfare bodies and individuals.
A variety of items were on sale including food,
clotheswear, home products, and agricultural produce.
The bazaar was also highlighted with various games such
as flying fox, pony ride and bouncer as well as
exhibitions including a display of high-powered
motocycles, and musical presentations.
RBPF Sport Council win netball tournament
The Royal Brunei Police Force Sports Council team
emerged champion in the final netball championship after
defeating IVY League team 19-17 and captured the Yang
Berhormat Dato Paduka Haji Idris's trophy. The
tournament was organised in conjunction with His
Majesty the Sultan and Yang Dipertuan of Brunei
Darussalam's 63rd Birthday anniversary. Taking part in
the tournament were Her Royal Highness Princess Azemah
Ni'matul Bulqiah and Her Royal Highness Princess
Fadzillah Lubabul Bulqiah who joined the IVY League
team. Third place went to Sport Council of the Royal
Brunei Armed Forces team and UNI United was fourth. Yang
Berhormat Dato Paduka Haji Idris bin Haji Abbas
presented prizes to the winners. 12 teams took part in
the three-day championship which was organised by Youth
Association of Kampong Lambak, PERBEKAL. The
championship was held at the Mutlipurpose Hall of the
Hassanal in Berakas.
Serasa beach holds Regatta Festival
The National Level Regatta festival in conjunction with
His Majesty's 63rd Birthday celebration was held Sunday
afternoon at the Serasa Beach. More than 10 race
categories were competed. Among them were 20 paddlers
Fibreglass boat race among ministries, traditional boat
race with 25 paddlers, 45 horse-power boat race and
Jetski 1200 C.C. race. The Minister of Home Affairs,
Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Johan Pahlawan Dato Seri
Setia Awang Haji Adanan presented the prizes.
Temburong Scouts organised Traditional Sport festival
The Temburong district Scouts association Sunday
organised the Traditional Sport festival in conjunction
with His Majesty's 63rd Birthday celebration. The
festival saw the participation of residents from five
mukims in Temburong district, namely Mukim Amo, Bangar,
Batu Apoi and Labu. It was launched by the acting
Temburong District officer, Pg Amirrizal Bin Pg Mahmud.
The events include peeling coconut fruit and beetle nut
fruits.
HSBC donates $20,000.00 to charities
A total of $20,000.00 was donated for the charity event
held by the HSBC Bank this year. The donation came from
the HSBC Golf charity event at the Empire Hotel and
Country Club. The Chief Executive Officer of HSBC, Mr
Tareq Muhmood(Mahmud) handed over $10,000.00 to the
Managing Director of Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal
Bolkiah, Dato Paduka Haji Ali Hashim bin Hj Daud.
Receiving another $10,000.00 was the Head of
Administration at Pusat Ehsan, Hj Abd Hamid bin Maaruf.
More than 250 golfers participated in the event which
has been annually held by the bank. Through this event,
golfers can play as well as donate for good cause. It is
one of the prestigious tournaments in Brunei Darussalam
that attracted a lot of golfers since it started.
