Several Bush fire around Brunei Muara
During the current dry spell, forest fires and bushfires
occur in several areas in the Brunei Muara District.
Forest fires broke out in several places in the Tungku
Link area near the Civil Service Institue and Universiti
Brunei Darussalam Monday afternoon. The Fire and Rescue
Department, has meanwhile received 379 calls on forest
fires and 300 calls regarding bushfires from January to
July this year. At the same time, the department is
carrying out patrols and monitoring activities
throughout the district.
Meanwhile, members of the public are also advised
against conducting open burning that can worsen the hazy
condition. The haze condition was reported as moderate
in all the four districts Monday. According to the
Meteorological Section of the Civil Aviation Department,
such a development might have been due to the recent
continuous rainfall that helped stabilised the air
quality level and clear the air of haze. Road users
passing through the Tungku Link Highway, especially near
the area affected by fire, are advised to take extra
care as thick smog can affect visibility. They should
turn their vehicle headlights on when passing through an
