Jordanian King arrives to attend BRIDEX
The Jordanian King arrived in the country Tuesday
afternoon for the Opening of BRIDEX 2009 which is to be
held today. His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah
Muizaddien Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of
Brunei Darussalam, greeted His Majesty King Abdullah the
Second Ibni Al Hussein, King of The Hashemite Kingdom of
Jordan on arrival at the airport. With His Majesty at
the Brunei International Airport were His Royal Highness
Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and
Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office and His
Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, the Minister of
Foreign Affairs and Trade. Their Majesties walked
through Static Guard from the Royal Brunei Armed Forces.
During his two-day visit, His Majesty King Abdullah the
Second resides at the Empire Hotel and Country Club in
Jerudong. Jordan is one of the countries that will
participate in the BRIDEX 2009.
Dpmm grants audience S’pore 2nd Minister of
Defence
His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the
Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's
Office Tuesday consented to receive in audience Minister
for Education and Second Minister for Defence of the
Republic of Singapore, His Excellency Doctor Ng Eng Hen.
The audience ceremony took place at Istana Nurul Iman.
His Excellency and his delegation are currently in the
country to attend the BRIDEX 2009. Present during the
audience ceremony were Deputy Minister of Defence, Yang
Berhormat Pehin Datu Singamenteri Retired Colonel Dato
Seri Paduka Awang Haji Mohamad Yasmin bin Haji Umar and
High Commissioner of the Republic of Singapore to Brunei
Darussalam, His Excellency Mr Joseph Koh.
One Day BRIDEX International Conference
In the last two decades, international community has
witnessed a widening and deepening of the concept of
security to include non-traditional security issues.
Issues like natural disasters and environmental
degradation such as tsunamis and climate change,
economic turmoil and financial meltdown, international
terrorism, deadly transnational diseases and crimes are
posing real threats to today's societies. The borders
are no longer impervious to those non-traditional
security issues. They also pose new demands on a
nation's defence force and homeland agencies to maintain
security and stability. Peacekeeping, peace building and
humanitarian disaster relief or operations other than
war are becoming familiar tasks to Brunei's armed
forces.

Singamanteri Retired Colonel Dato Seri Paduka Haji
Mohammad Yasmin in his opening address said in
effectively fulfilling and executing both their
traditional tasks and the emerging ones, today's armed
forces need to look at ways to further prepare, develop
and enhance their capabilities. This was later proceded
with a Keynote Address by the Former Chairman, Joint
Chiefs of Staff Committee, Pakistan, General Retired
Ehsan Ul Haq. BRIDEX Conference is a collaborative
between The Ministry of Defence and Jane's Information
Group. A one day International Conference was officially
opened Tuesday at the BRIDEX Centre in Jerudong.
RBAF hosts 4-Day 6th ASEAN Air Chiefs Conference
Matters pertaining to air power, common issues and
challenges faced by air forces in the region are up for
discussions during the 6th ASEAN Air Chiefs Conference,
AACC. The conference at the Empire Hotel and Country
Club was launched Tuesday by the Deputy Minister of
Defence, Pehin Datu Singamanteri Retired Colonel Dato
Seri Paduka Haji Mohammad Yasmin.
The conference includes a symposium featuring
presentations by three military officials and eminent
experts as well as an open forum. Among topics
delivered were "Application of Air Power in Combating
Terrorism"; "Air Power contribution in Non-Traditional
Security Threats such as Natural Disasters and
"Application of Air Power in combating insurgencies: The
Philippine Experience." The conference offers an ideal
stage and opportunity for ASEAN Air Power leaders to
share insights and exchange professional views on how to
contribute collectively in making this part of the world
safe and secure from threats.
The annual 4-day ASEAN AIR CHIEF CONFERENCEA is hosted
by the Royal Brunei Air Force and involved All ASEAN Air
Chiefs. This year's AACC opens to the theme "Building a
Collaborative and Responsive Regional Air Power". The
conference offered the ideal forum and opportunity for
air power leaders in the ASEAN Region to share their
insights and exchange professionals views on how to
contribute collectively in making part of the world safe
and secure from the threats. It is hosted by the Royal
Brunei Air Force was an annual meeting attended by All
ASEAN Air Chiefs. This year's AACC carries the theme of
Building a Collaborative and Responsive Regional Air
Power.
The ASEAN Air Chiefs Tuesday paid a courtesy calls on
the Commander of the Royal Brunei Armed Forces, Yang
DiMuliakan Pehin Datu Lailaraja Major General Dato
Paduka Seri Haji Awang Halbi. The courtesy call took
place at the new building of Ministry of Defence in
Bolkiah Garrison. The ASEAN Air Chiefs are in the
country to attend the official launching of the 2nd
Brunei International Defence Exhibition. It will be held
today at the BRIDEX centre in Jerudong.
H1N1 updates; 174 countries conform infected
The World Health Organisation through its latest update
on Influenza A H1N1 has confirmed that a total of 174
countries have reported incidences of Influenza A H1N1
with 208-Thousand and 990 cases have been confirmed to
be infected by the virus worldwide. The organisation
however noted that as many countries are no longer
required to carry out laboratory testing and report
individual cases,the actual number of those infected is
expected to be higher.
Meanwhile, a total of 1716 death related to influenza A
H1N1 have also been reported worldwide including 136
deaths among ASEAN member countries. Although influenza
A H1N1 infection has so far been found to be mild and
most cases recover without requiring anti-viral
treatment such as Tamiflu, the Ministry of Health
continue to remind members of the public who are showing
symptoms of influenza especially those who also suffer
from chronic illnesses to immediately seek medical
attention. This is because people with chronic illnesses
such as cardiovascular diseases, respiratory
diseases,diabetes mellitus and cancer as well as
pregnant mothers has a higher risk of developing serious
complications including death due to the infection of
the virus.
Meanwhile, in the second week to Protect and Treat Phase
in Brunei Darussalam that is between 2 to 9 August 2009,
4-Thousand 692 patients with symptoms of influenza have
sought medical treatment at 15 Health Centres through
out the country. From this total, 12 Percent were
categorised as probable cases of Influenza A H1N1 and
were treated with anti-viral (tamiflu). In the same
week, a total of 67 cases were confirmed as Influenza A
H1N1. In the same period that is between 2 to 8 August
2009, the Ministry of Health has also advised for the
closure of 23 classes in 21 schools throughout the
country following the confirmation of influenza A H1N1
cases among school population. In Meantime, from a total
of 9 hundred and 9 confirmed cases of Influenza A H1N1
since the infection was first detected in the country,
8-hundreds and 59 cases or 94.5 Percent have completed
their treatment. Thirty cases are still undergoing home
treatment while two Cases are being treated in normal
isolation ward in the hospital.
Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force, and Training
Squadron in Brunei
The Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force, and Training
Squadron are in Brunei on a three day visit to enhance
the mutual understanding and goodwill between Japan and
Brunei. The Japanese Maritime Self-Defense Force, brings
three destroyers namely JS KASHIMA, JS SHIMAYUKI and JS
YUUGIRI with approximately 720 officers and crews,
including 170 newly commissioned officers. The crew has
been experiencing activities promoting both cultures and
exchanging information’s between the two navies. The
Commander of JMSDF, Rear Admiral, Masao Kawamura in his
interview with RTB said that overseas training will help
to develop seamanship through their 5months long
training at sea and to cultivate the trainees minds as
future leaders.
