Their Majesties also witnessed an operational demonstration to combat drug trafficking and smuggling activities as well as a terrorism threat staged by the Royal Brunei Armed Forces.  The manoeuvres held along the Jerudong coastline were based on intelligence reports received by the Joint Operation Centre from higher authorities.  It depicts immediate action by the country's security personnel in tackling enemies threats.  Also included in the demonstrations were integrated capabilities of military personnel from Indonesia, the Republic of Singapore Navy, the United States Navy as well as French, China and Indian Navies.

At the BRIDEX showroom, Their Majesties viewed various facilities and latest defence equipments and technologies.  The new BRIDEX complex faces the South China Sea and is built on a 10 point five hectare site with modern air-conditioned exhibition halls, five thousand square meters adjoining apron space for static displays, a mobility park and marina for live demonstrations of equipment and systems as well as other facilities.

The second of its kind, BRIDEX is part of efforts by the Ministry of Defence to promote development in defence technology in facing continued challenges to regional and international security.  The world today is open to security challenges.  Ruins attributing to natural disasters bear testimony that the world is yet to find an appropriate answer to overcome such catastrophes.  Awareness of such calamities has forced countries including Brunei to re-evaluate defence priorities in facing dynamic and complex security challenges.

BRIDEX 2009 involves 250 defence companies across the world and about 200 international delegations from forty countries.  It brings together the world's leading manufacturers and suppliers of defence and security equipment and systems, providing them with a marketplace to showcase their latest, innovative and value-enhancing technology.  It also brings together high-level international government and defence and security officials, providing them with a unique experience in business facilitation.  BRIDEX serves as an excellent platform for building alliances, forging partnerships and capturing new business opportunities.

Before leaving, Their Majesties consented to attend a luncheon at the Conference Hall where they both signed the royal parchment. BRIDEX 2009 is open to the public tomorrow at two in the afternoon and Saturday from nine in the morning until five in the afternoon.
