Jordanian Monarch leaves this country
Wednesday afternoon, His Majesty was at the Brunei
International Airport to say farewell to Jordan's
Monarch. His Majesty King Abdullah the second left the
country following a two-day visit for the launch of the
2009 BRIDEX Conference and Exhibition. Also present at
the airport in Berakas were His Royal Highness Prince
Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior
Minister at the Prime Minister's Office; His Royal
Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, the Minister of Foreign
Affairs and Trade; His Royal Highness Prince Haji Abdul
Azim; His Royal Highness Prince Abdul Malik and His
Royal Highness Prince Abdul Mateen. Jordan is one of
the nations taking part in this year's BRIDEX 2009.
Prince receives call from Ambassador of Poland
His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, the Minister
of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Wednesday received a
farewell call from the Ambassador of Poland, His
Excellency Eugeniusz Sawicki. The audience took place
at the Balai Penghadapan, Bukit Kayangan. His Excellency
has been the Ambassador of Poland to Brunei since March
2005 and is based in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia.

Minister attends MABIMS
The Minister of Religious Affairs, Pehin Jawatan Luar
Pekerma Raja Dato Seri Utama Dr Ustaz Haji Mohamad Zain
and delegation are now in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia, to
attend a MABIMS Special Meeting and a ceremony to
celebrate MABIMS's 20th anniversary. The MABIMS Special
Meeting among other things will discuss reports on
strategic fields as well as to adopt resolutions on the
MABIMS Cleric Gathering. In conjunction with MABIMS's
20th anniversary, several events have been lined-up
including the cleric gathering and a Quran reading
competition for children.
BICTA objective to stimulate innovation and creativity
BICTA, the Brunei Info-Communication Technology Award,
is a component of the Asia Pacific Info-Communication
Technology Award, APICTA, which has a vision to widen
the influence of ICT industry in Asia. BICTA's primary
objective is to stimulate innovation and creativity in
the local ICT industry among individuals, SMEs and
educational institutions, as well as BE a benchmark for
local companies to compete against each other for a
chance to participate in the annually held APICTA
competition.
The winners for BICTA 2009 are the Kuala Belait Chung
Hwa Middle School for Secondary Student Project
Category; the Maktab Teknik Sultan Saiful Rijal for
Tertiary Student Project Category; Teleconsult for the
General Category, Mars Enterprise for e-Logistics &
Supply Chain Management Category and TT Mobile for the
Start-Up Category. Prizes and certificates to the
winners were presented by the Minister of
Communications, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri
Kerna Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abu Bakar. Also
present, the Deputy Minister at the Prime Minister's
Office, Dato Seri Paduka Eusoff Agaki and the Deputy
Minister of Industry and Primary Resources, Dato Paduka
Haji Hamdillah. The BICTA Prize Presentation Ceremony
was held Wednesday at the Empire Hotel and Country Club.
Brunei Health System among the best
The Regional Director For Western Pacific Regional
Office, WPRO, of the World Health Organisation, who is
currently on a three day official visit, stated that the
WHO will continue to assist Brunei's Ministry of Health
in its efforts to increase alertness against the A H1N1
flu epidemic. His Excellency Doctor Shin Young Soo made
the pledge at a bilateral meeting in the course of a
courtesy call that took place yesterday, between him and
the Minister of Health, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya
Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Haji Suyoi.
At the meeting in the Ministry of Health in Berakas, His
Excellency said that the WHO acknowledges Brunei's
achievement in raising its health status through the
Millennium Development Objective Indicator. In its
observation, the WHO found that the Pandemic Plan
prepared by the Ministry of Health has brought about
obvious changes in terms of the country's preparedness
level and strategy on the 2009 H1N1 pandemic. Also
present was the Health Deputy Minister, Yang Dimuliakan
Pehin Orang Kaya Pekerma Laila Diraja Dato Paduka Haji
Hazair. His Excellency was briefed on Brunei's Health
Care System by the Deputy Permanent Secretary for
Professional and Technical, Datin Paduka Doktor Hajah
Intan binti Haji Mohamad Salleh.
First UNIFIL team return home
5 personnel of the Royal Armed Forces's Malcon West 1
returned home late Wednesday after completing their 9
month tour duty under the United National Interim Forces
in Lubnan-UNIFIL. Present at the airport to welcome them
was RBAF's Commander Yang Dimuliakan Pehin Datu
Lailaraja Mejar Jeneral Dato Paduka Seri Haji Awang
Halbi bin Haji Md Yussof. Shortly on arrival, a beret
exchange ceremony from UNIFIL's blue beret to RBAF's
green beret was conducted by the Commander of the Royal
Brunei Armed Forces.
36 successful applicants for In-Service in MOD
The objective to achieve higher knowledge is not merely
an advantage for an individual but also to a ministry as
well as for Brunei Darussalam. The Minister of
Development, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Hamzah
Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Haji Abdullah noted this in an
address at a thanksgiving ceremony for successful
applicants of post training service scheme in
2009/2010. A total of 36 applicants received letters of
congratulations from the Minister of Development. Of
the number, 7 will undergo Master degree courses
overseas, 7 in Degree, 20 in Diploma, and 2 to attend
the business school in the country. Also present was
the Deputy Minister of Development, Dato Paduka Doktor
Haji Mat Suny.
SPARK
Zone Village will be complete by March 2010
The Sungai Liang Authority, SLA, is committed to making
the Sungai Liang Industrial Park, or SPARK, into a
globally competitive, leading industrial centre, with
high end facilities and a streamlined administrative
hub, centred in a business friendly environment.
Wednesday, a Foundation Laying Ceremony was held at the
SPARK Zone Village site, officiated at by SLA's
Chairman, Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Kerma Raja Pengiran
Haji Kamarulzaman. Construction of the 15 million
dollar Zone Village on a 6.7 hectare piece of land, is
expected to finish in March 2010. Those present
included Yang Berhormat Dato Paduka Haji Idris; the
Belait District Officer, Awang Haji Jamain; the village
headman of Lumut Satu, Yang Berhormat Haji Muhamad
Shafiee; and the Chief Executive Officer of the Brunei
Economic Development Board, Mr Vincent Cheong.
QCC or KKC ends
The Civil Service Institute has formed a study group to
determine as to whether the Quality Control Circle, QCC,
has really made a positive impact in the civil service.
The Director of Civil Service Institute disclosed this
intiative at the official closing of the 12th Quality
Control Circle Convention Wednesday. Awang Haji Junaidi
bin Haji Omar said that the Institute also conducted
studies as to whether projects carried out really
achieved the QCC's goal, or are invented for the purpose
of competing in the Convention. He stressed the studies
are also to find out the reason as to why the QCC cannot
be made a culture in the civil service and whether it is
necessary to change the QCC format in the future. This
year's National QCC was organised by the Civil Service
Institute. 20 teams competed and submitted group
projects that were divided into 5 categories. The QCC
was first introduced in Civil Service of Brunei
Darussalam in 1984.
