Royal’s grand audiences 

His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam yesterday granted an audience to the US Senator from the State of Florida, The Honourable Bill Nelson. The Honourable is in Brunei Darussalam for a three-day working visit to promote bilateral cooperation, including in the area of security and trade.  Later, His Majesty granted a farewell audience to the outgoing Japanese Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam, His Excellency Hashimoto Itsuo. His Excellency has been the Japanese Ambassador to Brunei Darussalam since 6 November 2006.  Both audiences took place at Istana Nurul Iman.  

Meanwhile at the other part of the Istana Nurul Iman, Her Majesty Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha consented to receive in audience the wife of U.S. Senator, State of Florida, United States of America, Mrs. Grace Nelson. Mrs. Grace Nelson is accompanying her husband, The Honourable Bill Nelson who is currently in the country for a three-day working visit.

2009 e-Gov Forum Launched 

His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al-Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince and Senior Minister at the Prime Minister's Office, Monday consented to launch the 2nd Annual Asia-Pacific e-Gov Forum 2009. The Forum at the Empire Hotel and Country Club, aims to gather experts in e-Governance, stakeholders, policy makers and ICT executives. The Minister of Communications, Chairman of the B-I-T Council, in his welcoming remarks said that E-governance is certainly a significant issue that goes beyond the technicality of processes as well as more than just a process of service delivery. E-governance, he said, is about enhancing the value of services and focuses on the participation of the citizens, as client.  

E-Governance is about effectiveness, efficiency and empowerment. Among key-issues in e-Governance are regulation, digital divide, infrastructure development and e-services delivery. The Director of Programmes of the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation, Mr Bashir Patel, said as the community live in an environment of globalisation and information age, increasingly human beings are impacted economically, environmentally or physically. He highlighted the ICT Development in Brunei Darussalam and the launching of the e-government strategic plan, and provided a comparison between other commonwealth nations where Brunei has made major inroads to ensure the availability of ICT for all citizens and focus on attaining a high level of broadband connectivity as the country progresses on its action plan.  

The Deputy Minister at the Prime Minister's Office, Dato Seri Paduka Eusoff Agaki, the Chairman of e-Government Leadership Forum, in his address, underlined that e-governance is the foundation to enable successful implementation of e-government projects. E-Government, he said, is the discipline of providing online government services to the public as opposed to simple over-the-counter services. After officially launching the Forum, His Royal Highness then consented to view an exhibition by selected government departments and stakeholders involved in the e-Governance, held throughout the forum. 

 

Prince receives Audiences 

His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade Monday received in audience, the outgoing Ambassador of Japan. His Royal Highness received His Excellency Hashimoto Itsuo at the Balai Penghadapan, Bukit Kayangan. His Excellency has been Ambassador of Japan to Brunei Darussalam since November 2006.  

 

Gala Dinner for the E-Gov delegates  

In conjunction with the 2nd asia-pacific E-Government forum 2009, a Gala Dinner was held Monday night. The function took place at the Royal Berkshire Hall, Jerudong. The Gala Night was hosted by the Minister of communication, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abu Bakar as the chairman of Brunei Information Technology Council (BIT). The three-day forum is aims to share experiences and knowledge in the areas of e-Governance.  

 

 

PWD open new centre  

In conjunction with its Customer's day, the Water Services Department announced that a centre has now been established and will be operated by highly effective and well-trained personnel with a state-of-the-art facility. The Acting Director-General of Public Works Department, Haji Suhaimi Haji Gafar said that the 140 hotline that used to be the hotline for water, has now been become the department's hotline and will accept complaints related to the country's infrastructure. Meanwhile the Acting Permanent Secretary, Technical and Professional at the Ministry of Development, Haji Mohd Zin Haji Salleh, announced that the centre will become a focal point for the Public Works to the National Disaster Management Centre and will make the department more efficient in dealing with complaints during the emergencies. 

 

Orientation for SSEAYP 2009 

Leadership personality that a leader must have, cannot be acquired within a short time, or easily developed through certain programmes. But leaders tend to learn and benefit from things that happen around them in developing their leadership qualities that is thoughtful, considerate, disciplined, respectful and acting positively in all matters. This was highlighted by the Director of Youth and Sports, Awang Haji Mohammad at the official launch of the Orientation and Leadership Training for participants of the South East Asia Youth Ship Programme, SSEAYP 2009. Among the objectives of the orientation is to strengthen brotherhood relations among participants as a strong and firm group in undergoing the actual programme. 28 participants are to represent the country in the programme.

 

“Coconut and Kelupis” Book launch 

The role and responsibility of the Language and Literature Bureau since its establishment in 1961 has been to raise the status and empower the Malay Language as the country's official Language through a medium especially in the field of publication and research. The Acting Director of the Language and Literature Bureau, Hajah Aminah binti Haji Momin made the remarks at the official launch of a cookery book.  

The Cookery Book was officially launched by the wife of the Minister of Culture, Youth and Sports, Datin Hajah Masnah binti Haji Tuah. To date, two recipe books are already on the market, produced by two local writers and culinary enthusiasts. The new recipe books entitled, " Coconut and Kelupis" by Dayang Siti Radiah binti Haji Mohamad Yussof, are sold at 25 dollars a copy. Meanwhile, the other recipe book, "Warisan Ummi" by Dayang Moza Suffinaz binti Haji Mohammad costs 18 dollars a copy. Those books are currently available at the Language and Literature Bureau in Berakas.  

 

S.League 2009; Dpmm Fc 3 – 2 Super Red 

The Singapore S-League 2009... Brunei DPMM FC redeem its pride after defeating Korea Super Red 3-2 last night. The match took place at the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas. Present to watch the match was His Royal Highness Prince Haji Al Muhtadee Billah, the Crown Prince. Also present were His Royal Highness Prince Abdul Malik and His Royal Highness Prince Abdul Mateen. The visitor's first goal came in the first half through Yu Hyun Koo. However, Helmi Zambin scored the equalizer for Brunei DPMM FC in the 21st minute of the second half. Choi Dong Soo netted Super Reds's second goal in the 69 minute. 15 minutes later, Abdel Hamid Beruiga made the scored two-all before Safari Wahit netted DPMM FC winning goal.
