HM visits people’s houses, listens to concerns

The number of land title deeds presented under the landlot grant scheme for temporary occupation licence, or TOL, increased by seventy Wednesday, bringing the total number to date to nearly 2,200 throughout the country. His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Mu'izzaddin Waddaulah, the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam consented to present the land title deeds to seventy recipients at a ceremony held Wednesday morning at the Civic Centre of Mukim Pengkalan Batu in Kampong Parit of the Brunei Muara District. His Majesty also presented thirty eight recipients with housekeys to their new dwellings under the Landless Indigenous Citizens Housing Scheme.

His Majesy the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam was greeted on arrival by the Minister of Home Affairs, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Johan Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Haji Adanan; the Minister of Development, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Hamzah Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Haji Abdullah and the Brunei Muara District Officer, Dato Paduka Hj Mohd Yussof. The Brunei Muara District Officer, in his welcoming address, said that His Majesty's presence was a great honour and most meaningful to the receipients. The title deeds recipients occupy T-O-L lands in Mukim Gadong, Kilanas, Sengkurong, Pengkalan Batu, Lumapas, Berakas, Mentiri and Serasa while the housekeys were for homes built under the Landless Indigenous Citizens Housing Scheme in Kampong Lumapas 'A', also in the Brunei Muara District.

The latest recipients bring the number of those under the Landless Indigenous Citizens Housing Scheme throughout the country to nearly 3 thousand and 5 hundred. *To bless the occasion, doa selamat was read by the Brunei Muara district Syara'iah subordinate court judge. The Landlot grant scheme and Landless indigenous Citizens Housing Scheme are among undertakings by His Majesty's government toward assuring the well-being of people of this country. Other schemes toward this end include the National Housing Scheme and the Yayasan Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Foundation's Housing Scheme. One of His Majesty's aspirations has always been to see that his subjects and people possess their own land and homes, built in orderly fashion and within conducive environments. After consenting to present the land grants and house keys, His Majesty proceeded to tour several government and private sector's institutions, and also stopped by at several homes of the recipients.

His Majesty's destinations included the Masin Primary School; the Ideal Multifeed Farm in Jalan Bengkurong Masin; Bayu Ilham Motor in Kampong Bengkurong owned by a local businessman; the Mukim Sengkurong Post Office and the local library of the Language and Literature Bureau. His Majesty also consented to stop by at the houses of a T-O-L land title deed recipient in Kampong Masin; the Kampong Lumapas 'A" Landless Indigineous Citizens Housing Scheme, and the house of the Ketua kampong of Lumapas B, Awang Haji Chuchu bin Haji Serudin. His Majesty subsequently proceeded to drop by at several houses owned by land titles receipients under the land lot grant scheme for temporary occupation licence, or T-O-L at Kampong Sinarubai, Bengkurong. His Majesty's tirelessly pays close attention to the well being of his subjects of this country. His Majest's concern touches almost every aspect of living including housing. His Majesty was subsequently invited to proceed to the Mukim Sengkurong Civic Centre for luncheon. The Civic Centre which was completed in April last year at a cost of one point seven million dollars serves as a centre of community activities for the local residents.

Forum competition

The youth mosque of the Brunei Muara District's team emerged champion in the forum competition of the Sirah of Prophet Mohammad - Be Peace Upon Him, organised in conjunction with Isra Meraj 1430 Hijrah celebration. Second place went to Youth Mosque of Tutong District's team, and the youth mosque of Temburong district's team was third. The theme of the forum entilted " Belia Cemerlang Negara Gemilang ". The Minister of Religious Affairs, Yang Berhormat Jawatan Luar Pekerma Raja Dato Seri Utama Doktor Ustaz Haji Awang Mohd Zain was present to hand over prizes to the winners. The function took place at the mosque of Kampong Penanjong Tutong last night.



64th Independence Day anniversary

The Indonesian Embassy in Bandar Seri Begawan held a reception marking the 64th Independence Day anniversary of the Republic of Indonesia last night . The occasion was hosted by the ambassador of the republic of Indonesia, His Excellency Mr. Herijanto Soeprapto. His Majesty's government was represented at the occasion by the Minister of Home Affairs, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Johan Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Paduka Awang Haji Adanan, and his wife. Also present were other foreign diplomats, senior government officials as well as members of the Indonesian community in Brunei. This year marks the 25 years of bilateral relations between Brunei Darussalam and Indonesia. The investment's potential between Brunei Darussalam and Indonesia are enormous and need to be further explored. At present, Brunei Darussalam's investment in Indonesia include the ownership of the Nusa Dua Beach Hotel located in Bali, Indonesia. Meanwhile Indonesia's investment in Brunei Darussalam is in packed mineral water (air sehat) producing company named Indonesia - Brunei Darussalam Investment Company (IBIC) sendirian berhad.



Drawing Competition

A total of 83 paintings competed in the Drawing Competition in conjunction with His Majesty's 63rd birthday anniversary celebration. The competition was aimed at encouraging local artists to produce quality paintings. It was also to support the young artists and school students to come forward with their products. Category A1 was won by Awang Haji Abdul Wahab bin Haji Jaafar and Awang Haji Jalil bin Haji Gadong won Category A2. Category B opened to upper secondary students was won by Dayang Alicia Lim Chia Hue while Category C opened to primary school pupils was won by Awang Muhammad Akmal Faizuddin bin Isham. The Deputy Minister of Industry and Primary Resources, Dato Paduka Awang Haji Hamdillah presented the prizes. The entries are being exhibited at the lobby of Museum in Kota Batu and will open to the public for two weeks during office hours.



Annual Asia-Pacific E-Governance Forum

The 2nd Annual Asia-Pacific E-Governance Forum Brunei Darussalam entered its second day yesterday at the Empire Hotel and Country Club by foccusing discussions on efforts to support the e-Governance process. The Deputy Permanent Secretary at the Prime Minister's Office, Awang Abdul Mutalib as the Chairman, in his opening remarks, welcomed delegations in responding to the rapid changes taking place within the global and national telecommunications sector. The day's session focused on the topic - "Investing In E-Governance : Providing The Platform Necessary To Support Your E-Governance Processes", delivered by the Chief Executive Officer of BAG Networks Sendirian Berhad, Dayang Haslinda binti Taib. She among other discussed on working with suppliers to create the right solutions as well as ensuring one's governance solutions are culturally, financially and technically appropriate for meeting their challenges. The three-day forum is organised by the Commonwealth Telecommunications Organisation, C-T-O, in association with the Prime Minister's Office and the Ministry of Communications.



Sungai Liang Industrial Park

The Sungai Liang Authority, S-L-A, is committed to develop the Sungai Liang Industrial Park, SPARK as a globally competitive industrial hub. Yesterday, a laying of foundation stone ceremony was held for infrastructure works site of the Sungai Liang Industrial Park - SPARK. Leading the ceremony was the S-L-A Chairman, Yang Amat Mulia Pengiran Pekerma Raja Pengiran Haji Kamarulzaman. Works on the project cost 12-million dollars, covering approximately 100 hectares of land. The works will include the development of a road network, a dual carriageway leading from the entrance to a roundabout, which will provide access towards the Brunei Methanol Company, B-M-C, as well as access towards different sections of SPARK. The project is expected to be completed in March, next year. 2



21st memorising of ayat-ayat lazim and Azan

To instill and upgrade the religious awareness and understanding on the reading of holy Quran and Azan or a call for prayer, the 21st memorising of ayat-ayat lazim and Azan of subuh prayer was held for pupils of government and non-government primary schools in the Belait District. Nine boys took part in the azan subuh competition and 9 girls competed in the memorizing of ayat lazim. The Azan category was won by Mohd Amirul Arifin Bin Haji Noraidi while Dk Amal Zahirah Binti Pg Hj. Jofri won the memorizing of ayat lazim. Prizes were presented by the wife of the Belait District Officer, Dr. Hajah Jamilah Binti Haji Mohd Yusof.



Guilds International Awards

For the first time , two students from the Sultan Saiful Rizal Technical College, received the City and Guilds International Awards for Excellence. The Country Director from City and Guilds Malaysia, Mr. Ian Oswin Noronha said that there are only about 100 medals produced internationally. Only 3 has been passed to South East Asia of which two are for Brunei Darussalam. The two award Winners, Mohamad Iran Haji Ismail and Ramlah Haji Jani, each received a gold medal from City And Guilds International Medals for Excellence. In an interview with RTB yesterday, the recepients expressed their appreciation for the awards.



Guilty on a charge under section 35

The Bandar Seri Begawan's Magistrate's Court today sentenced a permanent resident, Haji Wahib bin Hajii Metassim after he pleaded guilty on a charge under section 35 of the Water Supply Act. In the course of investigation carried out under the Prevention of Corruption Act, the Anti Corruption Bureau revealed that the defendant did dishonestly alter the index of a water meter at a house at Kg Penanjong Tutong. He was fined one thousand and five hundred dollars or one month imprisonment in default
