Prince Bolkiah receive Audience from 3 Ambassadors

His Royal Highness Prince Mohamed Bolkiah, Minister of Foreign Affairs and Trade, Thursday received in audience three newly-appointed ambassadors in the country. The audience took place at the Balai Penghadapan, Bukit Kayangan.His Royal Highness welcomed the ambassadors and discussed bilateral matters. His Royal Highness first received in audience the Ambassador of the Federative Republic of Brazil, His Excellency Sergio de Souza Fontes Arruda.

His Royal Highness then received in audience the  Ambassador of Switzerland, His Excellency Jorg Alois Reding.

His Royal Highness later received in audience the Ambassador of the Federal Democratic Republic of Nepal, His Excellency Naveen Prakash Jung Shah. Ambassador Sergio de Souza Fontes Arruda, Ambassador Jorg Alois Reding and Ambassador Naveen Prakash Jung Shah are currently based in Kuala Lumpur, Singapore and Bangkok respectively.

 

HM announce fasting month on Saturday

By consent of His Majesty Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Muizzaddien Waddaulah, Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of  Brunei Darussalam, it has been announced that Brunei Darussalam will begin fasting for the month of Ramadan 1430 Hijrah Saturday. The announcement over Brunei Radio and Television was made Thursday evening by the Syariah High Court Judge, State Judiciary Department, Prime Minister's Office, Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Zaimi bin Haji Talip.

The group assigned to sight the new moon of Ramadhan comprising the Syarie Court judges and officials from the Ministry of Religious Affairs and the State Mufti Department, as well as the Survey Department, Ministry of Development, Thursday, did not sight the new Moon. They were at the Bukit Shahbandar in Jerudong, Bukit Agok and Bukit Ambok in the Tutong District as well as at Bukit Lumut in the Belait District. Therefore, the nightly Sunat Terawih prayers will begin Friday; while bertedarus ceremonies will also be held at all mosques and suraus in the country starting tonight.

Meanwhile, working hours at Government Ministries and Departments throughout the month of Ramadhan will be from eight in the morning until 2:00 in the afternoon. For daily-paid workers, their working hours will be an hour less than usual.

A H1N1 Influenza more stable and decreasing

The Minister of Health says the A H1N1 Influenza situation in the country is more stable now and the number of cases decreasing.  Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Indera Pahlawan Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Suyoi disclosed this, in an interview with RTB, following a Kesyukuran and Hajat Prayer ceremony in conjunction with the Silver Jubilee of the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha Hospital, Thursday. Yang Berhormat Pehin said his remark is based on the fact that there were 11 news cases on Wednesday, and Thursday with only three cases. However, the Minister said, what is quite worrying is the condition in neighbouring country, Malaysia where H1N1 infections and the number of deaths from the disease are on the increase. The same situation has been reported in Thailand and other neighbouring countries. This is why the Ministry of Health is giving the statistics, so that people in Brunei are well aware of the current situation. Although the current condition in the country is somewhat under control, Yang Berhormat Pehin hoped that such a condition would continue. At the same time the ministry advised people in the country to postpone visits to the neighbouring countries unless absolutely necessary. If so, they are to take the precautionary measuresby observing strict personal hygiene and to heed the situations there more seriously.

 

Police held foundation-laying ceremony in Gadong

The Royal Brunei Police Force's Headquarters in Gadong will soon have a new Operation Room. Work on the room is now in progress and is expected to be completed by the end of the year. A ceremony to lay the foundation for the project was held Thursday.

The foundation-laying ceremony was led by the Commissioner of Police, Yang Dimuliakan Pehin Datu Kerma Setia Dato Paduka Seri Zainuddin bin Jalani. The 1.94 million dollar project covers an area of 2,185 square metres. After the foundation-laying ceremony, the Police Commissioner then viewed and exhibition on the structure of the police operations room being built as well as the plan to upgrade the existing building after being affected by floods early this year.

 

National Exercise test Operation

The main focus of the National Exercise held on Wednesday, was to test the capability, readiness as well as integrity of the country's security agencies when faced with the threat of terrorism. It also aimed to see interaction and cooperation by the parties involved with the objective of an integrated cooperation. This was among the matters clarified by the Deputy Commissioner of Police for Operation, in a media conference held at the Police Headquarters in Gadong Thursday.

Yang Dimuliakan Pehin Orang Kaya Pendikar Alam Awang Haji Hasrin also said, the exercise held, gave the Security Forces the space to be more prepared.

Yang Dimuliakan Pehin added that among the objectives of the national exercise was to identify the capability of the Government agencies and the Standard Operation Procedure, SOP and the departments involved when the situation demands.

 

Made in Brunei It product memorandum Agreement

A Memorandum of Agreement between the Alif Technologies and Bahwan Cybertek, Oman was signed Thursday to enable the Made in Brunei IT product to be integrated with an array of complementing solutions from Bahwan Cybertek and reaching to a much larger global audience through Bahwan's presence in 3 continents in 11 countries.

The signing was between the Chairman of Alif Technologies Sdn Bhd, Pengiran Haji Mohammad bin Pengiran Haji Kamaluddin and the Executive Vice President of Bahwan Cybertek, S. Narender.

Present to witness was Acting Permanent Secretary of Ministry of Communications, Awang Haji Mahmud bin Haji Mohd Daud. Bahwan CyberTek is known for its innovation prowess and has successfully incubated several one of the kind models spanning across Government, Oil and Gas and development of ICT Workforce which can add significant value to iCentre in it's local technology led incubation efforts in Brunei. The signing ceremony was held at the iCentre Auditorium.

 

Al-Quran Memorising Competition in Dubai

The participant and accompanying teacher to the 13th International Quran Memorising Competition to be held in Dubai received their tickets and allowances Thursday. The Al-Quran Memorising Competition organised by the Dubai Government is a prestigious event and the focus of the Muslim ummah in the month of Ramadhan, will take place from the 1st until the 20th of Ramadhan. Brunei Darussalam had previously established its name at international Quran Memorising Competitions in Saudi Arabia, Egypt, Jordan and Indonesia.  This year, Brunei Darussalam will be represented by Ak Khairul Ikhwan bin Pg Alit, a student of the Sultan Haji Hassanal Bolkiah Institute of Tahfiz Al-Quran. The Brunei national participant will leave the country on the 24th of this month, accompanied by his Quran-reading teacher. For Ak Khairul Ikhwan this would be his second participation in the international quran memorising competition, albeit his first time in Dubai. He had first competed in such a competition in Jordan in 2007.

 

Laila Padi production by 2015

In a move to increase the level self-sufficiency in the local rice production to 60 percent by 2015, the Agricultural Department continues to hold briefing to padi farmers throughout the country.  A briefing on Laila Padi and the formation of a Padi farmer's cooperatives was held recently at the Belalong Hall in Bangar Town. The briefing deal with the problems of padi planting as well as the benefit of forming cooperatives for the padi farmers in Temburong district.  The briefing also touched on pest control and plant disease as well as the handling of the new padi species. For the padi farmers in Temburong, padi plantation is an effort to improve their source of economic income.

 

IBB launch Student Care Takaful

Takaful IBB Berhad Thursday launched a comprehensive Insurance Package for students studying abroad called "Student care Takaful". The new product was officially launched this morning by the Minister of Communications cum Chairman of Takaful IBB's Board of Directors, Yang Berhormat Pehin Orang Kaya Seri Kerna Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Abu Bakar bin Haji Apong.

Student care Takaful is a product under the Family Takaful Plan, that caters for insurance requirements in the face of unforeseen circumstances, risk exposure, medical expenses, loss or of baggage or belongings, trip cancellations or curtailments.

The Director cum The Acting Managing Director of Takaful IBB Berhad,Dayang Hajah Lily Bte Haji Kula said in an effort to create awareness and encourage insurance culture   to prepare future generation to be less dependent on such support when times come where these luxuries are no longer easily available. Thus focuses on young generation, as proportion of population whom believe will find it easier to grasp the concept and appreciate the importance of insurances.
