Religious events during fasting month begins
Brunei Darussalam will begin fasting in the month of
Ramadhan Saturday. Meanwhile, starting last night all
mosques, suraus and religious halls throughout the
country are holding the nightly sunat Terawih prayers
and Tedarus Al-Quran during the month of Ramadhan.
Friday, Bandar Seri Begawan echoed with the sound of 12
shots of the cannon gunfire, marking the start of the
holy of Ramadhan. The cannon firing were conducted by
the Royal Brunei Armed Forces at the Taman Haji Sir Muda
Omar Ali Saifuddin in the capital. Working hours at
government ministries and departments throughout the
month of Ramadhan will be from eight in the morning
until 2:00 in the afternoon. For daily-paid workers,
their working hours will be an hour less than on normal
days.
MOH announces Outpatient service during fasting month
The Ministry of Health announces that its Bandar Seri
Begawan Outpatient service will be extended beyond the
normal working hours throughout the fasting month.
From Mondays to Thursdays and Saturdays, services will
begin at 8 in the morning until 2 in the afternoon and
again from 7 until 10 in the evening. On Fridays,
Sundays and during Public Holidays, clinics will open in
the afternoon, from 2 to 5 and from 7 to 10 in the
evening. On Public Holidays that extends over the
weekend or of more than one day, the Out Patient Service
will be rendered from 2 until 5 in the afternoon and
from 7 to 11 in the evening.
Ramadhan stalls already put up in several locations
With the start of Ramadhan Saturday, supermarkets and
food stalls become the public main focus in preparing
food for the sahur or supper. Among the focal points are
the business areas such as the Gadong Market and Food
Stalls in the capital. At the same time, Ramadhan
stalls have already been put up in several strategic
locations throughout the country, ready to offer a
variety of delicacies for the breaking of the fast
Saturday.
Laksaman College held Graduation ceremony
The number of private educational institutions in this
country continues to increase. These private educational
institutions offer various courses from kindergarten to
higher learning, including vocational and technical
education. The Deputy Minister of Education stated this
during the Graduation ceremony for Laksamana College of
Business held at a hotel in Gadong Friday. Pengiran Dato
Seri Setia Dr Haji Mohammad also stressed that students
are valuable assets and the leaders of tomorrow. More
than hundred students from the 2008 - 2009 sessions
received their degree and diploma certificates in
various courses. Laksamana College of Business or L-C-B,
a partnership of Abdul Razak Holdings, Brunei and
Kensington College of Business, London was established
in 2003 in the country as a business course provider.
The college offers courses for academic and professional
qualifications.
PGGMB Orphan’s Donations ceremony
A ceremony to present donations to orphans of the Brunei
Malay Teachers Association, PGGMB, members was held
Friday. The ceremony took place at the PGGMB building in
the capital. The donations were collections from the
association members. 9 orphans aged 16 and below of
PGGMB members who had passed away received the donations
presented by the President of PGGMB, Haji Antin bin
Ahad. In an interview with RTB, Haji Antin said that
continued support from the society however small, will
be very meaningful, valuable, highly appreciated and
always remembered. It is a way of showing to the orphans
how they are cared for and loved so they too could be
successful and happy as other children who still have
both parents.
e-Business portal briefing by AiTi
The Brunei Darussalam e-Business portal aims to promote
its e-Commerce activities, primarily for use by
Bruneians. To develop the e-business portal, the
Authority for Info-communications Technology Industry of
Brunei Darussalam - AiTi has organised a briefing on
consultancy services at the Rizqun International Hotel
in Gadong. The briefing was presented by Senior
Manager Pengiran Haklimah, from the IT Industry
Development Group, AiTi. The e-business portal was
developed in line with AiTi's initiative to diversify
the nation's economy. The main objective of the
briefing was to explain the scope of work for
consultancy services to develop an e-business portal.
It is hoped that the portal to be developed/will
encourage Brunei's SMEs to take up their business'
operations and transactions using this latest online
business technology. Among those present during
the briefing were AiTi officers, ICT industry players
and interested companies.
