MABIMS Youth Bus Project, to strengthen relations and
networking
The 2009 MABIMS Youth Bus Project is a first time
venture that can continue in years to come, to
strengthen relations and networking among youth leaders
from member countries. It's an important venture
to help MABIMS maintain the relevant role it plays in
socio-religious fields, among Muslims in the region.
According to the leader of Brunei's delegation to the
2009 MABIMS Youth Bus Project, the project ran from
August 6th until the 14th. Awang Haji Amir Hisham bin
Haji Masri also said that the project, which involved a
7 day bus journey, began in Singapore and ended in Kuala
Lumpur, Malaysia. Over 30 participants from MABIMS
countries or about 8 people from each country took part
in the inaugural project which coincided with MABIMS
20th Anniversary. In line with the project's theme, "New
Media and Creative Technology Bringing Islamic Youth
Closer", the selected participants were required to be
familiar with ICT and new media platforms. The

H1N1 Update
As part of its continuous efforts in overcoming the
current Influenza A H1N1 pandemic and to facilitate the
treatment of those with symptoms of H1N1, the Ministry
of Health has formed an alliance with private clinics in
the country. The cooperation will enable tests for
Influenza A to be carried out in all Private Clinic free
of charge. Private Doctors will also be allowed to give
Anti-Viral prescription such as Tamiflu to patients and
the patients can get the medication at any Government
Health Centres for free. The Ministry of Health in its
press release said between the 17th and 23rd of this
month, 3,500 people with symptoms of H1N1 infection have
seek treatment at Health Centres throughout the country,
compared to 5,221 in the previous weeks. However, the
decline in number was partly due to the recent extended
public holidays. From the number of patient seeking
treatment last week 10.6% were categorised as probable
case of Influenza A and were given Tamiflu treatment. In
the same week, 30 new cases of H1N1 were confirmed
through laboratory tests, bringing the nation's
confirmed cases to 1,000 and 1. 12 classes in 12 schools
were also advised to be temporarily closed following
cases of Influenza A among the affected schools
population. The World Health Organisation-WHO,
meanwhile, reported, as of Thursday, nearly 240,000
people from 182 countries worldwide has been confirmed
to have been infected by the virus since the first case
was reported last April. However, the exact number is
likely to be higher as most countries are no longer
required to conduct laboratory tests and to report
infected cases individually to WHO. Also in the same
week, 455 new H1N1 related deaths were reported
worldwide including 25 new deaths within ASEAN
countries. This brings the total number of deaths to
2,601.
