New STRATA Acts, starting 1st July 2009 

By the command of His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Dipertuan of Brunei Darussalam, the Ministry of Development has announced that His Majesty, in his Titah, has consented to the introduction of Land Strata Acts, starting 1st July 2009, or 8th Rejab 1430 hijrah. 

The new Act aims to: 

# Benefit Rakyat and Permanent residents of Brunei Darussalam to buy their own homes in the country.

# Benefit land applicants to optimise their land development such as through "vertical development".

# Attract local and foreign investors to invest in the real estate sector.

# Provide employment opportunities in management cooperation.

# Boost the economy of Brunei darussalam through real estate.

# Through the Land Strata Act high rise buildings over 2 storeys will now be able to be built.

# Holders of strata land act can sell, give or draw up plots to applicants or use them for collateral. 

Under the Act, His Majesty also consented for real estate agents or "managing agents" to manage each strata unit. Valuers and Estate Agents Order 2009 also come into effect as of 1st July 2009. 

The ministry of development through it's land department will put on some roadshows to brief all stakeholders starting 1st August this year.

Mukim Gadong 'A' holds religious activities 

The Mukim Gadong 'A' Consultative Council with the cooperation of the Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Hajah Saleha Mosque Committe in Kampung Rimba and the Iqra Association, last night held Mass Maghrib, Sunnat Hajat, the reading of 30 chapters of the Al-Quran Verse and Mass Isyak Prayer.   

The Minister of Home Affairs, Pehin Dato Seri Setia Haji Awang Adanan was present at the ceremony.  The congregation was aimed at seeking the blessings and protection from Allah Subhanahu Wata'ala for His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Dipertuan of Brunei Darusssalam's health and well-being as well as for the nation's peace, prosperity and free from all disasters and diseases. Also present were the Deputy Minister of Home Affairs, Yang Dimuliakan Pehin Orang Kaya Dewa Pahlawan Dato Paduka Awang Haji Dani, acting permament secretay, the Brunei Muara District Officer, Ketua Kampongs under Mukim Gadong 'A' and its nearby vicinities.   

 

MOF holds religious activities 

The Ministry of Finance and departments under it last night also held Mass Maghrib Prayer, Sunnat Hajat, the reading of Surah Yaasin and Tahlil as well as Doa Kesyukuran. It was held in conjunction with His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Dipertuan of Brunei Darussalam 63rd birthday anniversary. Present at the ceremony were  the Second Minister of Finance, Pehin Dato Seri Setia Awang Haji Abdul Rahman, Permanent Secretaries and Deputy Permanent Secretaries at the ministry. It took place at the Ministry.   

 

Kuala Belait Municipal Department surprise checkup 

Following the current Swine Flu outbreak, officers from the law enforcement unit of the Kuala Belait and Seria Municipal Department sprung a surprise inspection on hotels, restaurants, foodstalls, and barber shops. It was a follow up to ensure that cleanliness regulations such as providing hand sanitizers were still being followed. Food preparation methods, kitchens, and areas both inside and outside premises came under scrutiny for cleanliness. Business premises will be shut down temporarily if owners do not comply with the regulations. 

 

14 New babies were born on 15th of July 

14 new babies - 6 boys and 8 girls were born on July 15th, on His Majesty the Sultan and Yang Di-Pertuan of Brunei Darussalam's birthday.  The first arrival, a baby girl, made her way into the world at Raja Isteri Pengiran Anak Saleha, RIPAS hospital at 35 minutes past 12 midnight, weighing 2.550 kilos. She belongs to proud parents Awang Julaihi bin Haji Mohamad and Dayang Nurshrine binti Mohamad Heldy.  

 

Law Enforcer agencies coordinated operations 

A coordinated operation by law enforcement agencies over 5 hours last Monday saw the arrest of 61 people on charges under Syariah law, Immigration Regulations, the misuse of Drugs and Custom Acts. 27 summons were issued on road traffic violations. Between 10 in the evening and 3 in the morning, 18 arrests were made under Syariah law, 32 under the Immigration Act, 6 over misuse of drugs and 2 for custom violations. Meanwhile the police remind the public not to leave valuable items in their cars and make sure that their houses are locked during the current festive season.  

Meanwhile, on midnight last Tuesday, six Chinese nationals were apprehended in a raid for prostitution. The raid was conducted by the Royal Brunei Police Force, the Royal Custom and Excise Department, Narcotics Control Bureau, and the Religious Affairs Department after a tip-off from the public. A local Chinese man in charge of the prostitution ring and 7  customers comprising locals, Chinese nationals and other foreigners, were arrested.  

 

DST Group Brunei Premier League 2009/2010 starts in August 

DST Group Brunei Premier League 2009/2010' organised by the Brunei Darussalam Football Association, FFBD will begin on the 7th of August. Last night, a meeting for managers of football clubs' teams at the Conference Room of the Hassanal Bolkiah National Stadium in Berakas. Ten teams will be competed in the championship with 90 games, 45 each in the first and second-leg tournament. The meeting was aimed to coordinate with the participating teams to ensure the smooth-running of the league. It was also to discuss the rules of the tournament and initial time-table of the games. A briefing was also held to discuss related matters with referees.
